データベースは、
インターネット上のホストの既知の 48 ビットイーサネットアドレスを格納します。
データは
.Pa /etc/ethers
と呼ばれるファイルに次のフォーマットで格納されます:

項目は任意個の空白文字やタブ文字で区切ります。
行頭の ``#'' は行末まで続くコメントの開始を表します。
行頭に ``+'' があると、
