Any port listed here is a good candidate for a general review simply due to age... For example, a number of them seem to patch an install: target into the program Makefile and/or arbitrarily compress their manpages from patches/patch-*. This has been out-of-vogue since I would guess mid-1996, at least. The binary is called splitmp"e"g and the manual splitmp"e"g.1.gz.
