* Presenting GNOME 2.20.1 and all related works for FreeBSD. The officialJoe Marcus Clarke2007-10-242-37/+37
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | GNOME 2.20 release notes can be found at http://www.gnome.org/start/2.20/notes/en/ . Beyond that, this update includes the new GIMP 2.4 (courtesy of ahze). The GNOME 2.20 update also includes a huge change in the FreeBSD GNOME hierarchy. We are now using the more standard DATADIR of ${PREFIX}/share rather than ${PREFIX}/share/gnome. The result is that fewer patches and hacks are needed to port GNOME components to FreeBSD. This will mean some user changes may be required, so be sure to read /usr/ports/UPDATING for more details. This release and the things we accomplished in it would not have been possible without mezz's crazy idea to collapse DATADIR, and his persistence to make it happen successfully. Ahze and pav also deserve thanks for their work on porting modules and testing the whole ball of wax on pointyhat (respectively). The FreeBSD GNOME team would also like to thank our various testers and contributors: Yasuda Keisuke Frank Jahnke Pawel Worach Brian Gruber Franz Klammer Yuri Pankov Nick Barkas Cristian KLEIN Tony Maher Scot Hetzel Martin Matuska (mm) Benoit Dejean Martin Wilke (miwi) (And anyone else I may have missed) PRs fixed in this release: 111272, 113470, 115995, 116338 Notes: svn path=/head/; revision=201947

| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | - Fix a few of pkg-descr by chase the rename. - Move all PORTREVISION and PORTEPOCH to top with ?=. - Put USE_X_PREFIX back in, but under REFERENCE_PORT, and remove PREFIX? and USE_XLIB. This fix ports to use the correct mtree when you change the prefix, for example: Incorrect: (Without USE_X_PREFIX) ================================ # cd /usr/ports/x11-toolkits/gtk20 # make -V MTREE_FILE /etc/mtree/BSD.x11-4.dist # make PREFIX=/tmp/foo -V MTREE_FILE /etc/mtree/BSD.local.dist <-- Here... ================================ Correct: (With USE_X_PREFIX) ================================ # cd /usr/ports/x11-toolkits/gtk20 # make -V MTREE_FILE /etc/mtree/BSD.x11-4.dist # make PREFIX=/tmp/foo -V MTREE_FILE /etc/mtree/BSD.x11-4.dist <-- Here... ================================ - Change a several of *-reference ports to install in LOCALBASE instead X11BASE, but only two gtkmm*-reference couldn't be change at the moment. Bump the PORTREVISION for change prefix. Discussed with: marcus Notes: svn path=/head/; revision=164120

* Presenting GNOME 2.12 for FreeBSD. The release is chock full of bug fixesJoe Marcus Clarke2005-11-054-32/+124
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | and new features. Don't believe me? Then see for yourself at http://www.gnome.org/start/2.12/notes/en/. DO NOT USE portupgrade by itself to upgrade to GNOME 2.12. Instead, use the gnome_upgrade.sh script from http://www.marcuscom.com/downloads/gnome_upgrade212.sh. This script will circumvent some potential pitfalls users can see if they use portupgrade by itself. In keeping with tradition, GNOME 2.12 for FreeBSD comes with a special splash screen. The winner of this release's contest is Dominique Goncalves <dominique.goncalves@gmail.com>. His splash screen was inspired by http://art.gnome.org/contests/2.12-splash/83. The FreeBSD GNOME Team would lank to thank the following users for their contributions to this release: Matthew Luckie <mjl@luckie.org.nz> ade sajd on #freebsd-gnome Caelian on #freebsd-gnome mnag Yasuda Keisuke <kysd@po.harenet.ne.jp> Mark Hobden <markhobden@gmail.com> Sergey Akifyev <asa@agava.com> Andreas Kohn For more information on GNOME on FreeBSD, checkout http://www.FreeBSD.org/gnome/. * Presenting GNOME 2.10 for FreeBSD!Joe Marcus Clarke2005-03-128-53/+107
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The release notes can be found at http://www.gnome.org/start/2.10/notes/rnwhatsnew.html, and will give you a good idea of what has gone into this release overall. However, a lot of FreeBSD specific additions and fixes have been made. For example, this release offers fixed ACPI support as well as new CPU freqeuncy monitoring support. See the FreeBSD GNOME 2.10 upgrade page at http://www.FreeBSD.org/gnome/docs/faq210.html for the entire list as well as a list of known issues and upgrade instructions. GNOME 2.10, as well as all of our releases, would not be possible without the great team that goes into porting and testign each and every component. Thanks definitely goes out to ahze, adamw, bland, kwm, mezz, and pav for all their work. We would also like to thank our adventurous users that chose to ride the walrus. We'd especially like to thank the following users that provided patches for GNOME 2.10: ade Yasuda Keisuke Franz Klammer Khairil Yusof Radek Kozlowsk And anyone else I may have accidentally omitted. As with GNOME 2.8, 2.10 comes with a brand-spankin' new splashscreen courtesy of Franz Klammer. However, unlike GNOME 2.8, we've included all of the FreeBSD GNOME splashscreen entries with gnomesession. You can use the deskutils/splashsetter port to choose the one you like best. As always, GNOME users should _not_ use portupgrade alone to upgrade to 2.10. Instead, get the gnome_upgrade.sh script from http://www.FreeBSD.org/gnome/gnome_upgrade.sh. Enjoy! * Presenting GNOME 2.8 for FreeBSD (2.8.1 to be exact).Joe Marcus Clarke2004-11-078-258/+242
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This release notes detailing all of the new goodies in GNOME 2.8 can be found at http://www.gnome.org/start/2.8/notes/, and the list of what was fixed in GNOME 2.8.1 can be found at http://lists.gnome.org/archives/gnome-announce-list/2004-October/msg00056.html. This release, as well as all of our others, would not have been possible without the great efforts of our FreeBSD GNOME Team. The list of current members can be found at http://www.freebsd.org/gnome/contact.html (including our newest member, Michael Johnson <ahze@FreeBSD.org>). Special thanks also goes out to all of the loyal FreeBSD GNOME users that put up with crashes and hangs to test and debug GNOME on FreeBSD. We would especially like to thank those users that provided patches for GNOME 2.7 and 2.8: Franz Klammer <klammer@webonaut.com> Piotr Smyrak <piotr.smyrak@heron.pl> Radek Kozlowski <radek@raadradd.com> Khairil Yusof <kaeru@pd.jaring.my> Yasuda Keisuke <kysd@po.harenet.ne.jp> Tom McLaughlin <tmclaugh@sdf.lonestar.org> Vladimir Grebenschikov <vova@fbsd.ru> GNOME 2.8 also features a new, FreeBSD-specific splashscreen that was designed by jimmac for GNOME 2.8, then daemonized by Franz Klammer <klammer@webonaut.com> and Radek Kozlowski <radek@raadradd.com>. As with GNOME 2.6, you cannot just "portupgrade" to GNOME 2.8. There is a script provided at http://www.marcuscom.com/downloads/gnome_upgrade28.sh that will aid in the upgrade process. Full documentation on the GNOME 2.8 upgrade is coming following this commit. From all of us at FreeBSD GNOME, ENJOY! Notes: svn path=/head/; revision=121068
* Apply a big libtool patch to allow porters to use the libtool installed byJoe Marcus Clarke2004-07-091-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | the libtoolX ports instead of the one included with each port. Ports that set USE_LIBTOOL_VER=X will now use the ports version of libtool instead of the included version. To restore previous behavior, use the new macro, USE_INC_LIBTOOL_VER. Both macros accept the same argument: a libtool version. For example, to use the ports version of libtool-1.5, add the following to your Makefile: USE_LIBTOOL_VER= 15 To use the included version of libtool with extra hacks provided by libtool-1.5, add the following to your Makefile: USE_INC_LIBTOOL_VER= 15 With this change, ports that had to add additional libtool hacks to prevent .la files from being installed or to fix certain threading issues can now delete those hacks (after appropriate testing, of course). | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Begin autotools sanitization sequence by requiring ports to explicitly specify which version of {libtool,autoconf,automake} they need, erasing the concept of a "system default". For ports-in-waiting: USE_LIBTOOL=YES -> USE_LIBTOOL_VER=13 USE_AUTOCONF=YES -> USE_AUTOCONF_VER=213 USE_AUTOMAKE=YES -> USE_AUTOMAKE_VER=14 Ports attempting to use the old style system after June 1st 2004 will be sorely disappointed. The goal is to make GNOME1 framework more modular, which will allow to use GNOME1 apps with GNOME2 desktop as well as considerably reduce langht of dependency chains for GNOME1 ports (for example after this commit AbiWord's dependency chain was reduced by 7 ports from 57 to only 50, while Gnumeric's - from 60 to 53 and so on).
