Rather than make template devices and use up lots of inodes, also restricting the number of devices that can be dealt with, mknod all necessary devices as necessary using built-in information. This removes a number of constraints on the number and type of devices that sysinstall can see.

Remove some ancient cruft discovered during a recent code review.
