This will make a number of things easier in the future, as well as (finally!)
avoiding the Id-smashing problem which has plagued developers for so long.

Boy, I'm glad we're not using sup anymore.  This update would have been
insane otherwise.

tar(1), but actually uses cpio(1).  Many people are getting confused
about the lack of a tar on the fixit floppy, and simply don't know
that cpio can basically handle tar format fine (or they simply don't
know how to invoke cpio).
